HOW WE DO IT
Our Commercial Tree Planting Process
Every engagement starts with an on-site consultation. An ISA Certified Arborist® evaluates your site conditions, soil type, drainage, sun exposure, proximity to utilities and structures, and existing vegetation before a single tree is selected. We don't work from a catalog; species selection is driven by what will actually survive and perform at your specific site.
Once species are selected, installation includes proper planting depth and backfill, soil amendments where warranted, staking for larger-caliper trees, and initial mulching to protect the root zone.
Post-installation, we provide guidance on watering schedules, mulch maintenance, and when follow-up fertilization or biostimulant application is appropriate to support establishment.
WHY WE DO IT
Professional tree installation
Most tree failures trace back to how the tree was planted, not the tree itself. Planting too deep, compacting the root zone, poor backfill selection, or placing the wrong species in an incompatible site are all preventable errors. Where trees represent long-term capital investment and contribute directly to property value, tenant satisfaction, and shade across parking structures and walkways, getting it right the first time is a financial decision as much as a horticultural one.
Benefits from the ground up
Species selection
An ISA Certified Arborist selects species not only on aesthetics, but also based on your soil type, drainage, sun exposure, and long-term site goals.
Regional scale
Whether you're installing a row of ornamental trees along a commercial entrance or managing a multi-site planting program, we have the equipment and crew to handle it.
Ongoing tree maintenance
Tree installation is the beginning of the investment, not the end. Townsend Arborcare offers root fertilization, soil analysis, and protection services to maximize long-term survival rates.
Frequently Asked Questions About Commercial Tree Planting
In Central Indiana, early spring (before bud break) and fall (after leaf drop but before the ground freezes) are the optimal windows for most species. These cooler periods allow root systems to establish before the demands of summer heat or winter cold. Container-grown trees can be planted outside these windows with appropriate watering, but spring and fall installations produce the best survival rates.
Species selection starts with site conditions: soil type, pH, drainage, available root zone, sun exposure, and proximity to utilities and structures. We also factor in your long-term goals like shade coverage, screening, erosion control, or aesthetic character. We prioritize species with proven performance in Central Indiana’s urban environment, including native species where they’re appropriate.
We provide post-planting guidance on watering schedules and mulch maintenance. For commercial installations, we recommend a soil analysis and establishment fertilization program to support root growth through the first growing season. We can also build a multi-year maintenance plan that includes periodic arborist assessments to confirm trees are establishing well and to catch any early pest or disease issues.
